Okay, I will try to address these questions more or less in order XD

You can create in any medium you want for FFEX -- fic, art, manips, earwax, whatever, as long as you make a gift you would be proud to give and your giftee would be happy to receive. When you sign up, you use a form that has a space where you indicate what media you work in. All you have to do is say what you're willing to do that round (i.e. you don't HAVE to put down both art and writing even if you do both, you just put down what you wanna do this time).

Speaking of rounds, FFEX works in cycles, where there's a round followed by some down time until the next round. You don't sign up permanently, but on a round-by-round basis. So if you're busy one round, skip it and go for the next one. If you're not sure you can stick to the round schedule, you can always drop by between rounds and make Chocobo Down, which are less formal gifts (but still subject to FFEX quality guidelines) made for prompts that went unclaimed the round before.

Finally, all levels of FF knowledge are welcome! The more canons you know the easier it is for us to match you with a giftee, of course, but we've already had successful matches and exchanges between people with just three, two, and even one canon under their belt.

So, hopefully that answered your questions! Please let us know if there's anything else. Just for the record, this round of FFEX is almost over, although there is still time to submit some Moogle Fluff (short/simple pieces meant to tide over those whose gifts are late). Next week the round closes and Chocobo Down time begins, though, so feel free to come by and see if you'd like to make someone's dream come true =)
